ARCH ENEMY Drummer Was 'Very Sad' To Hear About WARREL DANE's Passing

December 27, 2017

Australia's Sticks For Stones recently conducted an interview with ARCH ENEMY drummer Daniel Erlandsson. You can now listen to the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On ARCH ENEMY singer Alissa White-Gluz, who joined the band in 2013:

Daniel: "She's doing great. She joined the band, and ever since then, she's become more and more of a vital part of the band. And now, yeah, she is where she is. She is a huge part of the sound and the image of the band. I think the live show of ARCH ENEMY is… for us, it feels kind of the same, 'cause we're doing the same thing, but from a fan's perspective, I guess it looks quite different now [compared to how it did] back [before Alissa joined]."

On singer Warrel Dane's (NEVERMORE, SANCTUARY) recent passing:

Daniel: "It was very, very sad to hear it. We did a U.S. tour — it was the first U.S. tour ever with ARCH ENEMY, and it was actually when we had Johan Liiva singing — and it was ARCH ENEMY and NEVERMORE, so we got to know those guys pretty well already back then, and we've stayed in touch all since then. So, yeah, it's really sad — very sad."

On ARCH ENEMY guitarist Jeff Loomis's (ex-NEVERMORE) contributions to the band's new album, "Will To Power":

Daniel: "He didn't [contribute to the songwriting] on 'Will To Power', mainly because of how things panned out, timing-wise. When he came and showed his ideas, we were already so deep into the writing process that it didn't happen this time. But he's playing many cool solos on the album. And there's always the future. I mean, there's definitely gonna be another album one day, and we'll see what happens then — maybe he's gonna be a bigger part of that, writing-wise."

ARCH ENEMY recently completed a North American co-headlining tour with TRIVIUM. On January 12, the group will kick off a European headlining tour, during which they will be supported by WINTERSUN, TRIBULATION and JINJER.

"Will To Power" was released in September via Century Media Records. Co-produced by guitarist Michael Amott and Erlandsson, the disc was mixed and mastered by longtime collaborator and friend Jens Bogren (OPETH, AT THE GATES, DIMMU BORGIR). The LP's cover artwork was designed by Alex Reisfar.

"Will To Power" marks the second ARCH ENEMY album since the departure of longtime singer Angela Gossow and addition of White-Gluz.
